Ryukyu lacquerware was born in the Ryukyu kingdom era during that time it developed as a diplomatic and trade center for Japan, China, Korea, and Southeast Asia.
The Ryukyu kingdom prospered under various cultural influences and played a hub role for people and culture to come and go. Taking a cue from this Ryukyus’ diverse background, we have launched a workshop to network people and others, people and culture centering around lacquer matters. We strive to convey the charm of lacquer and pass it on to the next generation by focusing on the five components, “creating,” “challenging,” “learning,” “enjoying,” and “connecting.”
